Winter Storm Warning . . . .

Yup, more snow's on the way. But, after all, it is winter. Just because Christmas is over, it doesn't mean that winter is over, too. I think most people forget that winter only just begins a few days before Christmas. I happen to love winter. I love all of the seasons, with my least favorite being summer. Crazy!, right? Well, let me tell you why . . . . .

I love the look of winter. Even though trees are asleep and the grass is no longer green, I like being able to see things the way they truly are, without any adornment. I like to be able to see into a wooded area and see paths where animals walk. I like looking up into the trees and seeing the nests that the birds spent so much time fussing over in the spring. Every time it snows I think it's adorable to see tiny bird-prints in the snow. I like having my cheeks stung by the cold wind - it reminds me that I'm alive. I can get so lost in my thoughts of what's been done and what needs to be checked off of my mental list that I love the cool gust of a winter breeze. And, I can always get warmer. I layer my clothes like a good New Englander and keep the home fire burning. I love making roasts and casseroles and meatloaves. I love being cozy in my big green robe. And I love my new leather gloves with the faux fur trim.

I like the spring because new life bursts forth from the sleepy winter. I love to see flowers bloom and the return of the bees and butterflies. I like the freshness of spring. I even love spring cleaning.

Summer is my least favorite season because of two things: humidity and mosquitoes. I cannot tolerate hazy, hot, and humid days. I don't like the stickiness of it. I never feel like cooking or eating during the summer. And a beautiful day can be absolute ruined by a swarm of mosquitoes. I think the only thing I really enjoy about summer is line-drying my clothes. I love the look of a neat, full clothesline (go figure).

So, I am going to enjoy this next round of snowfall. I've heard various totals from various sources today but they all lean to 10". We'll see. I've made my trip to the grocery store. We've got food, so we'll be happy.

How 'bout you? Do have a favorite or least likable season?

Have a great weekend!

  1. Oh, you sound just like my husband. He loves winter and says that he likes to be able to see the shape of the land when the trees are bare.

As for me, give me warmth! Honestly, by January 31st I'll be climbing the walls with Cabin Fever!

Enjoy your snow fall Liane :-)

  2. Well you are a true New Englander then and you belong right where you live. LOL! I, on the other hand, enjoy winter the least. I don't like winter clean-up and I hate not being able to keep the house cozy warm this year. It's just not the same sidling up to that electric heater. ;>

All the things that you enjoy about winter, I do as well. I love to see what's under the canopy of the trees and bushes. Love to see the prints in the snow.

BTW, it is getting bad when one is getting her weather report from a blog. This bad weather must be headed my way...I'll have to check this out.

  3. Hi Lee...you know I love Fall....I love the crispness of the leaves ..the COLORs (Oh how I miss those colors of New England!)...pumpkins, gourds, bittersweet vines.....I love the coolness of Fall but not the bitter cold of Winter.

I love the Holiday Season that Winter brings and I love Christmas snow. Washington winter is rain, rain, rain....but I do NOT miss the FEET of snow we used to get in Colorado!

    Love to you all...
