April Showers Bring May Flowers........

While that popular spring saying is true, in this region of the country the torrential rains of March have brought devastation and despair.

We have had a very snowy winter followed by three major rain storms in the month of March. Well, last week, the rivers, streams, creeks, ponds, and marshes could not hold any more. The water tables were growing higher and higher and rivers overflowed roadways and flooded neighborhoods.

Many homes are still, today, pumping out water - even after 10 straight days of sunshine. Many residents have been displaced because their homes have been condemned due to water damage. There was even a portion of our town, cut off by the surrounding pond and marsh, where residents were trapped without electricity for over a week, on their own island so to speak. People were being evacuated by boats.

The water damage and length of time that some portions of town were without electricity has closed many businesses, possibly for good.
Due to the unique lay-out of our small town and it's surrounding villages, many roads and bridges remain closed due to damage from the strong water current. Thank God, though, that there has not been one life lost during this flooding. It's the worst flooding this region has seen in about 100 years, by the way.......I am truly grateful for all of the emergency personnel - firefighters, police officers, EMTs, Red Cross volunteers, and others who left their families and jobs to help so many strangers. From leading people to safety during evacuations, to keeping posts at washed out roadways 24/7, that is truly wonderful - a sacrifice.

This is the season of renewal. Of new life. Of a fresh start. Of thankfulness. It's also nice to see people reaching out to others, offering a hand, a home, a job. God is our provider and the restorer of all things. And I see Him daily in the faces of others.......

Have a blessed day!

  1. Oh no. Things sound pretty rough there. (We had all the same rain and have just come off from another rainstorm. My basement has been wet for weeks. I try not to think about it, but it does wear on my head.)

Your flowers are very pretty. Perhaps that's small consolation. Hope that you and yours have been well and that spring improves for your community.

  2. Your flowers are so pretty Lee.

Hopefully, all will dry up soon and those areas will be able to make improvements to prevent the devastation from happening again.

    Love ya,
