Ahhhh....Memorial Day Weekend

What a lovely Memorial Day weekend!  This was the first three-day weekend I've had the pleasure to be off in over four years.

Saturday was a mostly-cloudy-with-the-threat-of-rain-but-quite-warm-and-humid-day that was spent lawn mowing and weed-whacking.  It seemed that the entire town was out and about and a trip to the supermarket had to be carefully planned to avoid beach traffic and overcrowding in the store.

Sunday was a delightfully sunny day that was warm and had the beginning feelings of summer.  We all went to church, being thankful to have the freedom to gather together to worship our God.  The afternoon was spent setting up a picnic for our son's youth group, who were coming over for some volleyball and ladderball, and a cook out.  It was great to hear the shouts of laughter and the chatter of the youth filling the air.

Monday was another beautiful day.  Warm and sunny, I spent a couple of hours out in the sunshine reading while my husband tinkered in the garage.  In the afternoon, a few of us took my daughter's 1974 VW Superbeetle convertible out for a nice, long country drive.  It was perfect.  So many people were having picnics and yard sales.  We came home and enjoyed some burgers, potato salad, chips, and of course, ice cream.

I am so grateful to have had this precious time with my family.  I do not take any moment for granted.  I am very mindful that there were many people who couldn't be with their families due to the fact that they are sacrificing their time and their lives by serving our country for our sakes; and that there were many absences at these gatherings because some have given their all for us.  While they were present in memory and spirit, they will never be present physically.

How did you enjoy your weekend?

Blessings for a wonderful day,
Liane

  1. The weather sounds just like ours. Does that mean that you had thunderstorms all day long today? They started at 4 in the morning and finished about 9:30 this evening. John and I never remember a day like this.
