Inherited Joys

My great-grandmother Emma lived right across the street from me when I was growing up.  She had loved and lost; she had endured bitterness from loved ones;  she lived a very simple and plain life (having never driven a car); and she was a safe-haven for me, my sisters, and my brother.

And she loved her plants and flowers.  She had a great many photo albums just for her plants and flowers.  That must be where I acquired my love of flowers and living things:

I love this flax that dances atop the stems whenever a breeze goes by...

I've had this azalea bush for at least 20 years and it never disappoints..

Flowers have spoken to me more than I can tell in written words.  They are the hieroglyphics of angels, loved by all men for the beauty of their character, though few can decipher even fragments of their meaning.  ~Lydia M. Child

Have a blessed day, everyone!

  1. Hi Liane! Always a joy to find you here...and something of a surprise, too. Now if you and Robin can just get back into the groove, I'll be able to keep up with my favorite East Coast/West Coast sister duo. =D

Sweet story about your grandmother. And I'm sure that you are correct. Her love for flowers has influenced you.
